The aim of this present report is to explore, identify and understand
the experiences of international postgraduate researchers from
racially minoritised backgrounds at the University of Sheffield. But
crucially it endeavours to give voice to the plurality of racially
minoritised international PGRs’ experiences and generate action-
oriented, PGR-led recommendations for the University to find out
more about what these challenges are and how we can address
them.

This report has been authored by Ankita Mishra. Ankita‘s research
interests and work include gender based violence, health and
wellbeing, higher education and research cultures, and participatory action research. Her approach to these fields are
rooted in critical race and disability, feminism, and intersectionality
frameworks. Ankita has worked on a number of research projects
alongside her PhD with over seven years of research experience
using participatory approaches and collaborative endeavours with
non-academic partners. She has undertaken the current piece of
work having navigated the UK higher education as a racially
minoritised international PGR. Ankita has been commissioned by
the Centre for Equity & Inclusion as part of its work to provide
support and opportunities for racially minoritised postgraduate
researchers at the University of Sheffield. Funding has been issued
through the University of Sheffield’s Research Cultures award.
