The Centre for Equity & Inclusion is a research hub based at the University of Sheffield. It seeks to enhance the university experience for postgraduate researchers (PGRs) of colour, whilst challenging racism and other systems of power within and beyond higher education.
We do this by providing a comprehensive programme of support and opportunity for PGRs. We also collaborate with ten local partners experienced in racial justice work to explore and enact anti-racist praxis.
Our latest report reveals that racially marginalised PGRs, across a diverse sample, oftenexperience overt racism, microaggressions, stereotyping of racial abuse from their supervisors, and feel bullied, intimidated, and fearful.
Every year the Centre will fund and support Knowledge Exchange projects between postgraduate researchers (PGRs) of colour and Centre partners that focus on racial justice.
The Centre for Equity & Inclusion has created its own antiracist archive for people of colour to document experiences of identity, heritage, higher education and social justice work.
Regular “Centre Chats” will run throughout the academic year, providing a space for PGRs to come together in small groups and discuss their experiences of the University and Centre for Equity & Inclusion.
